Route Description
The route as a whole is treated as a flat walk and is along level pavements. There is a slight decline on the section Old Road/Slade Junction to Oxford Brookes University.
The walk starts outside Crescent Hall and exits by a side entrance (there is a road entry/exit for vehicular traffic - ignore this, take the pedestrian side exit).
- Turn Right onto Crescent Road.Turn Left onto Hollow Way
- Go Straight On at traffic lights (Horspath Road on the right)
- Continue on Hollow Way passing Paul Kent Hall on the Right
- Bear Left at the roundabout and continue along The Slade
- At main road traffic lights (passing 3 sets of pedestrian traffic lights) - junction with Old Road - turn Left onto Old Road
- Continue down Old Road (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre on your Right) to traffic lights
- Turn Right at traffic lights to enter Gipsy Lane
- Continue along Gipsy Lane, cross the road to enter Oxford Brookes University at Reception
How to use the "Walk to Work" health walk
Start slowly and build up - start by walking a section of the route and catch a bus for the rest. For example, it only takes 14 mins at 3 miles an hour to reach Old Road/Slade junction starting from Brookes. Breathe naturally. It should be possible to hold a normal conversation. Slow down if gasping for breath. Be seen and be bright especially if the light and conditions are poor.
